Worst advice you could give

Recommended Posts

Here is a fun little thread to keep us entertained. What is the worst possible advice you could give to a new fly tier?

I will go first "Buy the cheapest tool set and vise you can find. They dont do anything anyways."

the worst advise I can think of is, spend all your money on top shelf tying tools, because the tools make the tier, rather than a retirement fund so you can work till the day you die.

Watch videos that evolve around around patterns  using arcane materials/tools  solely available through the sponsor of the video.

Go all out imitating patterns that the tyer  has not even tried on fish.

Watch 15 minute long videos that present a simple "1 minute " tying pattern.

seems a bit silly to give out the worst advise

id rather help than discourage

Were not going to be giving out this advice. This is more of a way to kill time and maybe get a good laugh. That would be terrible to give out terrible advice!

Nothing wrong with the least expensive set of tools.  I started with a kit of tools that was, probably, the cheapest thing I could find.  The vise lasted close to 30 years.  I still have a $100.00 vise, since I "moved on" to a true rotary vise.  Still using the bobbin holder from that set, too.

I can't think of "worst advice" ... but I agree with Poopdeck, " ... spend all your money on top shelf tying tools, because the tools make the tier ... "

When you buy a fly combo buy the highest weigh possible they can be used on all fish

Also dont use waders there uncomfortable and dont have a purpose.
