I've been playing with the stuff some and it seems most of the fibers are short, only a couple of inches long. Also, the are quit wiry like pig hair.

Is there enough variegation to use it to wrap a "quill" body like in peccary flies?

Probably not, I've got enough to try a bunch of things though. I'll try some dries too.

This is my first attempt.

A woolly mammoth nymph on a size 14 hook.

The hair is somewhat wiry and translucent with some iridescence and sparkle.

Mark Knapp’s All-Purpose Mammoth could ring some bells...👍👍🎣🎣😎😎

Would make a good Caddis pupa...

Ooh ooh, I'm going to do that after I get done with the Woolly Mammoth Bugger and the Woolly Mammoth Woolly Worm. That's a good'n.

Mark, You should incorporate some tusk and hair into the next knife you make. Maybe tusk as scales and the hair somehow incorporated into a sheath

I do use a lot of ivory in knife making, hair is another thing entirely. It's very hard to come by, it's expensive and doesn't go very far unless you use it on flies. Mammoth hair is a thousand times more expensive than ivory.

I washed the material to make it easier to tie with, it's much better now.

Woolly Mammoth Woolly Worm

Woolly Mammoth Booger. I gave them both "tusks" of biots, just cuz it seemed like they should have tusks.

Got a whole herd of Mammoth Boogers and worms.

How about catching a prehistoric fish with a prehistoric fly.

I'm trying to think of our most ancient fish species up here. Most of them are pretty young. We don't have anything like Gar, snakeheads and paddlefish. I suppose the most prehistoric we have would be burbot.
