Has anyone had success getting product support from Petitjean?  Obviously their tools are of high quality and expensive and I love them but despite repeated efforts I've never been able to get product support help through their website.

I have a bobbin that keeps cutting the thread when I try to use it.  Has anyone else had issues with the bobbin or other Petitjean tools?  Any suggestions on how to get product support or warranty repair?

Thanks for your help!  Love following topics on this forum.

I don't have anything from "Petitjean" ... but I have had bobbin holders cut thread before.  Well, I thought it was the holders.  First time, I finally realized it was me, clipping thread strand on the hook point.  Second time it was me, pulling too hard.  I still use the same bobbin holder, and haven't had any more problems with it.

If it's a metal tube end, check it with a magnifying glass for abrasions.  If it's a bead or ceramic tip, check it with a magnifying glass for cracks or chips.

Good luck.

Thanks Mike. It's definitely the metal tube on the end. The Petition has a unique tip that facilitates self threading of the bobbin which is one of it's best features. It's the self threading mechanism that's cutting the thread with minimal pressure.

Thanks Kimo. The bobbin worked great for a while and then started cutting 6/0 thread so it's a different issue.  Just trying to get some support out of the company and wondering if anyone has had success reaching them.  Most companies in this industry are very responsive.

Hi jss127,

In the past, I've used a Dremel tool to "clean out" bobbin tubes. To do so I found I needed to make a burnishing tip for the tool our of #10 copper wire. I cut a 2-inch section of wire then ground one end to a blunt tip with a belt sander so it would fit inside the tip of the bobbin tube. A gentle application of the fast spinning tip inside the bobbin tube fixed about 90% of any problem bobbin I had. It's worth a try and the cost of a 2-inch section of #10 copper wire is not much. By the way, after cleaning out a few bobbins, a groove will wear in the copper tip. Just smooth it back up with the belt sander and continue cleaning out bobbin tubes. Good luck! Take care & ...

Very creative Al.  Thanks so much for your detailed description.  Unfortunately the Petitjean bobbin has a unique self-threading feature so the tip of the bobbin is different than traditional bobbins.  I'm just trying to find a contact at the company so I can get them to replace the bobbin.

Thanks again!

Jeff

where exactly on the bobbin is the offense happening? at the tip of the bobbin? can it be resolved by slightly opening the wire a bit with some needle nose pliers? is there a burr on the wire?

in lieu of contacting petijean did you contact the dealer you bought it from?

mine wasnt perfect out of the box. i think i had to tweak it to use the fancy threading feature. after that i just threaded the the thread through the wire loop
