McFlyLures 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2020 Something called a kryptonite caddis. Awesome pattern! Pattern created by Juan Ramirez. I hope I spelled his name right. Anyway, I like it. I did change it to a jig hook, so a bit different. But pretty close.

The original was made from amnesia running line, but I didn’t have it so I found some hot green 40lb monofilament. The original I think was on 20lb amnesia. It took 14 wraps to make the original body Knot. I did it with the 40lb at 7 wraps because the 14 ended up being really hard to knot on mono (even with soap) and it made an abdomen that was too long. Noah thanks! Glad you like it.
Julius Riffle 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2020 19 hours ago, Mark Knapp said: Yep, I never really notice the flaws in my flies until I get ready to post them. That's only one of the reasons that posting flies makes you a better tier. Still, nice name and it's in your lineage. My name is Mark Steele (steel) Knapp (as in flint knapping) so I guess it was destiny, I was either meant to be a knife maker (I am) or I was meant to be a hard sleeper (I am). Pleasure to meet you, Mark. I'd love to check out your knives some time.

I'm really partial to his sniper baetis, slim Shady 5.0 and the one where he uses clear glass beads for a thorax. All 3 of them are killers

I'm not that familiar with Alaska or where you are within it ... but if there's a hydro-electric dam near by, that would make an excellent "Flesh Fly" for fishing the generator outputs. Mark Knapp 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2020 12 hours ago, TIER said: about 7 inches long, not weighted Yes, it should be a good halibut fly, rockfish and ling cod too, if you get it down to them. It would make a real good pike fly too. The fly should be weighted a little, to balance it with your sinking line. Otherwise the fly flags up while the line sinks and your leader gets fouled up in your fly line. It's a mistake to put too much weight on the fly too, then it doesn't cast well. What size hook did you put in there?
