Found this variation of the Iris Caddis on Planettrout’s site; combines the goodness of Mathews, Weise and Potter in one tasty morsel. Never thought of using pink for the hydropsyche hatch (I’ll have to downsize to a #16) but pink flies have produced well on Montana streams, so I’ll give them a shot.  My barred ginger cape is very weak -  short quills, sparse barbs, but the color is good so I used it here (next time I’ll wrap a ginger and grizzly)

hook - WFC Model 3 #12
thread - Danville 6/0 brown
shuck - Congo Hair white
rib - Mirage Flash opal
body - Danville flatwax shell pink
wing - Congo Hair white
thorax - Ice Dub un brown
hackle - barred ginger

Regards,
Scott

This is called a rabbit and a half. It is use primarily used for rockfish.

It can also be used for halibut and lingcod. It could be used for bass and pike, too.

The-Cinberg-1080.jpg

The-Cinberg-1080-Front.jpg

The Cinberg

Hook - Dry fly style
Thread - Tan
Tail - Brown spade hackle fibers
Body - Tan/cream dubbing
Hackle - Brown or dark ginger fronted with wood duck. The WD is not wound like the hackle, it is tyed on first with the tips pointing forward, the rest of the fly is tied, tail, body and hackle, then after tying off the hackle the wood duck is pulled back, the thread wound through to the eye, and the wood duck gets worked back with a thread dam in front of it, forcing it back towards the hackle.

Nice.  Deer hair isn't my strong suit.  I just ordered some of those ahrex tp long today.  Size 1/0 and 2/0.  Thought I'd give them a try.

Thanks Mr. Knapp!

Scott, that coachman caddis is a beaut. 👏

Philly, this was my first tie on the long. I think they are exactly what I’ve been looking for on bigger hair poppers. I’ve been through a couple packs of the standard tp’s and they are nice! It may be the premium packaging or the lure of Scandinavian, chemically sharpened fly hooks. But they are strong and sharp. I mostly reserve them for deer hair use only.
