Old Hat 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2020 Here is another Fall appropriate pattern. It is a variation of a caddis pattern called the Dyret or "animal". I simply bulk it up and add legs. Really makes for a mean simple hopper that rides in much the same manner as a natural. Easy to make it in whatever color you choose. Dyret Hopper Hook: 2x-3x long Thread: choice of stout Head/tail: deer or elk hair Legs: knotted pheasant tail Body: dry dubbing Hackle: dry saddle

chugbug27 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2020 @Kimo you using stripped CDL saddles? Necks? Do you marker them & coat, or leave the color alone? Beautiful stuff.... Why CDL instead of other?

Why CDL instead of other? I'm using CDL saddle stems. I'll marker them sometimes but I like to leave them natural and will also coat with UV resin. ( I use CA underneath) I also like using stripped peacock but the CDL has a different look and it comes with better definition when wrapped than the peacock. I've also combined CDL and peacock when the peacock didn't have much banding when wrapped. I'm also using the stem from a dark CDL saddle versus a regular saddle. mikechell 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2020 7 hours ago, Old Hat said: Dyret Hopper Okay ... I like this pattern ... really looks cool. But I can see at least two wraps of the hackle ... then the legs tie in point, then the rest of the hackle. Did you wrap the hackle by moving the legs out of the way for those first two or three wraps? Or did you somehow tie the legs in as you wrapped the hackle? After you wrapped the hackle? SBS, please?
