I've been tying 18's and taking pictures, but not posting... too embarrassed at the results.  Here are the few I am okay with.

Two views of a BWO parachute, this one with hand dyed hackle stem, #18:

Here is the difference between a #18 BWO parachute tied with a commercially dyed peacock quill:

and one tied with my own dyed peacock quill:

Here's the bug I'm aiming for...

Very nice. Mr.

New Guy here and new to tying. I am amazed that the skill levels I see in so many of these pictures! WOW!  Inspiring! This is a Yuk Bug I tied. Not a spectacular Job or difficult fly but one of my favorites to fish. I did trim the legs down a bit after the photo.

Thanks

Welcome! Very nice fly, I like the squirrel in the tail, one of my favorite materials.

Justin H  Thank you! This fly is the fly that forced me to start tying. I just could not find them anywhere.  I used to have to call a friend that owns a local fly shop and ask him if he would tie me up a dozen or two. I always felt bad asking him as he is a very busy guy. But now the tying addiction has taken hold of me and I don't ever want to buy another fly. So fun and rewarding to tie the fly yourself and then catch a fish with it.

Should I have said this in a quote to your post?

@Pbass I got into tying for a similar reasons too, it is really nice to be able to make exactly what I am looking for and not have to buy it. It helps with the cabin fever in the winter too.

In reference to the quoting it is just personal preference/convenience/clarity I think.

Kimo,

I really enjoy not only your great flies, but your photo skills as well.

Every time you put one up I pause and look closely at it.

Pretty cool.
