Fly Tyer Magazine Back Issues

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is safe and enjoying the summer. I was wondering if anyone had old Fly Tyer magazine back issues that they wouldn’t mind parting with. I would happily buy them or tie you up some flies in return. Any pattern you want as long as I can tie it. I’ve attached a sample of my tying.

I have been collecting them over the last 10 years or so. I have everything up to 1992 and then everything from 2007 - 2016. My collection is spotty between 1992-2007.

Any help would be outstanding. If I ever get a full collection I will make up a Master Fly Pattern List and post it in here.

Thanks so much

if you are thinking of selling anything on this forum you are in the wrong forum category and you need to have 40 posts (its in the rules in the trading floor category) before you can sell anything

the rules apply to all members of the forum

I always thought the publisher of the magazine should put out a book cataloging all the back issues.  They could simply reprint the back cover which shows all the flies in that issue, then add at the bottom of each page what issue it came from.

Yeah I know what you mean. I feel like fly tying is dwindling in popularity. I’m 38 and a ton of my peers can’t get past the fact that I fish let alone tie my own flies.

I used to take local fly tying lessons from Ian James. Sadly he passed a few years ago. My buddy and I were the youngest at any meeting by like 15 years.

if I ever get a full collection then I will make an excel document which can be sorted by category (fly name, fly type, tier, issue etc) that way it can be easily searched. I’ll send it to Fly Tyer too and see if they want to use the information.

It doesn't help that the good locations to fish are harder to come by.  For whatever reason, I can think of only 1 place in the midwest where I can rent an aluminum boat.  That said, I'm fishing more hours/year now than I ever did before.
