flytire 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 Here is my first YouTube music fly tying video. I figure it best to start small and simple It does have its flaws (it needs a redo but thats later on) but I just wanted to try doing a tying video to see if its something I wish to continue doing Im just beginning to learn windows movie maker. Video still needs some minor editing If the music is offensive, dont complain, just turn it off Please be brutal if you have to. It may or may not give me incentive to try another video I do not have a microphone attached to my computer to do a voice over of the tying steps but thats quite easy to figure out anyway giggle away 😁
Kimo 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 Looks pretty good to me! I don't find the music offensive even when I boosted the speed. I like that your opening was less than 10 seconds though I would leave the recipe up a tad longer. People read really slow. Suggest that you add a copyright and maybe some branding. Lesg 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 I like it because it is shown from the tyers perspective not the other side as most videos show.
flytire 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 i appreciate the comments so far if i make another video with more materials and a longer recipe i'll add more time for viewing the recipe copyright for what? please expand. you do not add copyright to your photos. is it required for videos? killer bug is all over the internet. any other tyers do copyrights? i'm giving the tyer the option to use any material they want to use
Noahguide 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 Norm, Like the video, Are you sure you haven't done these before? Also got a chuckle out of imagining Squatch Riverdancing behind you as you tied! Maybe that's your branding. Well done
Dr. P 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 I still think a materials list would be nice.

Well done I’m just starting out with videos. Maybe I’ll learn how to add squatch on a later video 😁😁
dave 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 Looked good to me Norm. Music beats the heck out of the hard rock and rap a lot of them have. On more complicated patterns, audio would probably be helpful but on straight-forward patterns not really needed. Just curious, what vise were you using? I like the old "two screw adjustments". They seem simpler and faster especially when changing hook sizes frequently. Hope you do more. Your flies and photography are in a league of their own. flytire 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 I use a renzetti traveler cam jaws adding additional audio will require me to buy a microphone. I don’t know what to buy i probably will do more videos in the future its a major learning process for an old dog with all the videos out there I’m not sure I have a lot to offer
Landon P 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 Maybe use a toothbrush to get the additional gunk off your vise, might make the video more gentle to the eye.
TSMcDougald 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2020 Looks good. I agree with Kimo that you should leave the materials list up longer. Especially for flies that require more materials.

For a guy like me who does not have 20+ years of tying under his belt, it's always great to see a master at work. Just seeing the way you work draws me in. Oh, and I don't think you should shy away from adding a microphone and replacing music with discussion. Weilenmann and Flager are great, certainly no improvement needed, but if you add your own personality and philosophies into your videos, hopefully with a sense of humor (missing nearly everywhere), by discussing what you are doing and why, they'll be different enough. And a big draw, I think. One thing you could bring to the table is organization. Most video tyers I've seen just present a hodgepodge of different stuff. If you make your fly selection and video library more purposeful in terms of its organization than everything else out there, it would be a big draw in my view. And I think you'd be my #1 choice for the guy who could do that well. Also... One thing you're all about is to free up the tyer to explore different materials with the same bug. On a video you could show the basic technique, as you've done, but then also show a display of how it looks on different hooks, different shades & materials, etc. Prove your point by showing what it means. The video technicals are all there, ready to rock n roll baby. I hope you do it. Oh, and yeah, +1 put on a copyright notice and a brand, so if people hijack your stuff you can pay a lawyer a much smaller amount of money to set them straight more quickly (or even write the cease and desist letter yourself) and give your lawyer more ammo to work with if needed. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ03.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiNwb2b7LHrAhUCH6wKHdYvDxAQFjAAegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw1KO_0sFETsOUaS7A4o-yGp
