An interesting tidbit even if not important. The place it was originated, Mayfield (near Kingsley) is not too far from where I live. Every year they have an Adams festival dedicated to the fly. A neat shindig in a little town. The library there has what is supposed to be an original Adams on display. Kinda neat to check out if you're ever in the area.

The original was tied with a golden pheasant tippet tail the wings tied either upright or cocked back by Lenard Halladay they had one at the fly fishing museum in Manchester VT. Still America's favorite fly with umpteen variations.

Interesting color variation between different substrates from the same dye bath. Was going to use hen pheasant body feather for the wing (instead of wing quill slips) but the sharptail was already dyed, so I went with that; again, the fish won’t care.

hook - WFC Model 6 #6
thread - UTC 140 woodduck
tail - golden pheasant crest
Rib - small wire gold
body - dubbing golden olive
Hackles - red/golden olive (4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/2 Tsp Rit Camel/4 cups water)
Wing - sharptail dyed golden olive
Shoulder - deer hair dyed silver doctor blue (2 packs Koolaid Ice Blue Raspberry/1 cup water)
collar/head - deer hair dyed golden olive
