Is your fishing season over already?

Mark,

With a few exceptions, you can fish in Montana all year. I have to leave for a while and by the time I get back, it’ll be too cold for me; hopefully, I’ll be back on the water in March.

Regards,
Scott

I can fit in one or two more float trips, then the water gets hard.

Good luck on Sunday.

Well, the fishing su*ked on Sunday.  The Eagle, where we had planned on going had had the flow raised from 160cfs to 291cfs on Friday and Saturday.  Experience has shown that when flows go up so much it puts the fish off. So we went to the Colorado. Windy as all get out, 20mph pretty steady, gust to about 30. The willow hatch was in full swing because of that. The willow hatch is when willow leaves cover the water. That all being said we did catch a few fish, nothing big 14-15" was the max. The Barr's didn't do squat, but the Charlie Craven soft hackle emerger got a few to hit and end up in the net and then back into the water.

Those are good looking tails.  Mind sharing how you tied them?  Or who's directions you followed?

Thanks, I don't mind telling how I did it.

Essentially, the ones on the left end were done my old way- dubbing and the bars done with wrapping floss. Most of them, the ones I like the most, were done with mallard, teal and gadwall flank feathers for reticulation, wrapped with dubbing. I'm still working on the technique but when I'm totally happy with it, I'll make an SBS or maybe even a video.

Do you have anywhere where you show your technique more detailed?
