But the tail only lasted one hit, whether I hooked the fish or not. Turns out, the silicone isn't strong enough to hold the dubbing fibers together when a fish grabs it. Good luck with yours. I started using UV resin instead of silicone. Here's some more of them, tried a blue one for a damsel fly too. Here's the first one with the new bodies. It had three tails when I started, don't know what happened to one of them. Got a bunch of these hooks in with a lot of vintage stuff at an auction. They seem perfect for these ext. body mayflies. These are size 16.

Well I added tails to mine, that are pretty sturdy, the tails are throughout the entire body and stick out the front.. here is a fly tied with them. Hoping that will help. Who knows though

mikechell 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2020 It looks good, McFly. I never took pictures of mine, because of the lack of durability. Mine had three cat's whiskers for tail, that also ran completely through the abdomen. First hit, and all the dubbing/silicone got stripped off the tail. I'm sure it was something I did, since there's other people using the process. I hope yours last better than mine did.

I saw some people like you did online talking up the style. I’m not sure I did anything better or different now than you so, hmmmmmmm. I’ll let ya know what I find out. TWall 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2020 Just getting back into tying, only my 3rd Prince Nymph I have tied. I don't have any hen capes so I used some nat. brown strung rooster saddle. Looking for critiques. I tied in the peacock at the base of the Herl and it seems to give my issues with my taper (i.e. thicker abdomen than thorax). I don't know about traditional form on that fly but I bet fish will eat it up.
