Stacked Schlappen Video

Recommended Posts

Thanks Bruce that is the first time I seen this technique.  I never used schlappen for a mixed wing, it looks good, really nice, and a lot better than laying out the turkey or goose trying to mix them in the same order for left and right. Thank you for sharing Poul Jorgenson's technique with us.

Well, unfortunately I'm embarrassed to post what I got done this second round...

Undercarriage:

I can see the technique does work better with schlappen than with goose shoulder. I only had three colors of schlappen -- fire orange, bright yellow, and neon green (can't see the green in the pic....). So that's part of the problem. Another is I only used three wing slips, not five, and I didn't have a dark slip to cover the brighter colors. I tried a dark grizzly wet fly saddle feather, but the web wouldn't comb into the schlappen. Yet I think the main problem is I simply need to get the fundamentals down much better re selecting, preparing & attaching materials on these flies before monkeying with mixed wings. No less appreciation Bruce, for your video and effort. Much more appreciation for your and others' results. I'll be back.
