Speaking of soft hackle.  First time I’ve sat down at the tying desk since I broke my ribs.  The hackle is a Furnace Metz hen that I just pu at a very nice price.  Look at those black tips !

The fly had small oval gold ribbing which you can’t see due to the exposure. Need to get something better to take pics other than my cellphone.

The majority of the time I use size 16 and 14 soft hackles. There are times tho when I use a size 24.

A Carey special is commonly tied in size 8.  It is a big soft hackle.  Then there are Steelhead and sea run cuts flies.  Some Steelhead soft hackles are pretty big.

I use a lot of size 10 soft hackles for panfish.

A guide showed me some with flash for bodies.  Gotta tryem though.   They’re 14,16,18.   Would really like to see some pics of the 20s and smaller.   Thanks

Whipped out a few more.  Don’t have small enough feathers for the 20,22s.
