Al Agelwei 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2020 For a long time the mustad 94840 was considered THE standard for dry fly hooks. Now it seems everybody has to be a bit different,to the point where there is no standard. I think daiichi is cjosest, and cheaper. Some of thr competition dry hooks are real good. Beading wire or Berkley wire leader, Hooks: Partridge Salmon, Gamakatsu Octupus or Dropshot Bump,: chart estaz or polar chenille. Tail: chart fluoro fiber Body: blue metallic embroidery thread Rib: chart flat braid (FTD) Palmered blue strung saddle Wing: black Congo hair (FTD) Topping: unraveled blue metallic embroidery thread, chart. Lady Amherst. +/- Peacock here Collar blue dyed Guinea Cheeks: Jungle Cock nail All are a little different. Playing with proportions and materials. Even that may not have been industry standard for all I know. WFC #22 model 3 "standard" length dry fly hook has the same shank length as the old #22 mustad 94840. Tiemco's "standard" length model 100 dry fly has a shank length 2xl of the old mustad 94840, at least in the small sizes. To me, that's not standard. By the way, mustad has been around about 70 years. When I started tying 35 years ago, tiemco wasn’t the new kid on the block, so for a long time, mustad was the only hook readily available, so I guess mustad was the original standard.
