I’ve tied them with wings of fox squirrel tail, too, but I really like the look of the grey.

Denson’s Shrimpy Crippler (variation)

Swapped out the dyed grizzly front shoulder for the grouse, which makes for a different look (tried partridge first but did not like the effect).


hook - BVFT Dry #10
thread - UTC 70 woodduck
rib - small wire gold
body - dubbing squirrel/hare’s ear
hackle - grizzly dyed golden olive (4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1 Tsp Rit Camel)
1st shoulder - woodduck flank
2nd shoulder - sharptail grouse dyed golden olive

206BL size 20

Olive UTC 70 denier

Olive 5/64" tung bead

Amber Zlon shuck

BWO dyed stripped peacock quill body. 

Mirage pearl tinsel over Grey flouro fiber wingcase and legs

Olive brown ice dub thorax

Note: a dab of zap over the thread base prior to wrapping the quill for increased durability.

That's what I'm talking about, I like that hook a lot. Easy access for tyer and fish, lightweight, really nice emergers there @Sandan

Thanks @chugbug27. They were actually a pretty easy tie. A necessity when the bourbon is on the bench.

Hackle color and rear body a little different than the original, and swapped out mottled hen for dyed pheasant rump.


hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 brown
tail - hackle dyed golden olive (4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1 Tsp Rit Camel)
rib - small wire gold
body - dubbing golden olive/claret
hackle - dyed golden olive
shoulder - pheasant rump dyed brown
