A some more revised flies.  This is a popper I learned in fly tying class back in 2019.  The initial batch I tied were on 3/0 and 4/0 hooks and were 4 to 5 inches long.  These are smaller more minnow-like poppers.  Since I'm using 2 mm foam I like to give the flies a keel, it keeps them floating straight up instead of on their sides.  The main revision was to create the keel, and  replace the eyes.  By the time I had done that a few needed color touch up and new UV resin.  They ain't pretty, but they catch fish.  Tying information below the pictures

Philly, can you explain how you made a keel, please?

Fairly easy.    The fly which is similar to a crease fly is made by folding the piece of foam over and gluing the belly sections together.  I use super glue.   After I press the pieces together I put a clamp on them or squeeze them with a flat pair of pliers.  Craft foam does absorb water, and apparently super glue.  When it dries and the clamp is removed you have a narrow belly.  That's the easiest way.  With these since I couldn't open them up without destroying the basic pattern.   I used a sewing needle, and poked holes in the foam belly, then dipped the point in super glue and filled the holes.  Then used the flat pliers to squeeze the foam.  That's more time consuming to say the least.

DarrellP,

I find the foam posts to be easy to work with, although not any more that polypro yarn posts. Both are easier to us that stacked hair, only in the sense that you can skip a step in stacking. I use the posts because of the color choices so I can make my 14s white, and my 16s yellow. Bigger and smaller sizes I use poly, and color coordinate those too. I've been working on foolish consistency even though someone said it was some kind of hobgoblin...

Philly,

That minnow pattern looks like a killer.

It reminds me of a similar pattern by a tyer from Indonesia who had some amazing designs.  A while back I lost access to his work when my computer crashed  and I a lot of my saved items went away. I cannot remember his name now.
