November Flies From the Vise

Recommended Posts

GD’s Pink Panther

Tail: Coq de Leon; Body: Black mini sparkle braid (substituted for black dubbing, though the book omits the type); Rib: Copper wire; Hot spot: Hot Pink Ice Dub; Bead: Firehole

This particular example is weighted with lead wire.  I’ve had the most success with it down deep.

tail - pheasant tail
rib - small wire gold
body - dubbing claret

the black looks great.

Thx; the deer hair took the dye well.  Now I can pitch all the crappy black deer hair I’ve bought over the years.

Scott

Living Waters Fly shop recently posted a nameless bass fly that was tied with the goal of putting as much motion as possible in the pattern. Other than the hackles, I have no idea how they tied their fly, but here's my (rather poor in comparison) attempt to copy the pattern. It looks kind of ugly, but I think this will be a very effective bass fly.

Not much to the recipe. The tail and the collar are both tied with Medium Pardo Coq de Leon hackles and Grey Heron Whiting Spey hackles. Fly Tier Dungeon's Kraken Dubbing in Silver Minnow was used for the body with some lead on the shank for weight.

Not sure if they really suck eggs or not but I think I might have to tie some of those up!  looks good !

I have a friend that use a normal rod and reel. He puts a fly on with a bobber and then puts a maggot on the hook of the fly... Not sure what that imitates but he catches a lot of trout.  Is that a Maggot sucking fly? LOL.

Found this article by April Vokey after my post. Summary: Highly questionable.

Pretty much a Sept, Oct, November Flies from the vise post.

Finally filled out the two boat boxes I take to the Florida Gulf Coast every Thanksgiving.  Will spend two weeks down in the Tampa/Sarasota area with the kayak chasing specs, red and snook.  This assortment usually does the trick.

Sounds like fun!  I'm in Kansas dodging covid like bullets.  Keep those expensive boxes of jems close and safe.  I've lost entire boxes of flies before, worth hundreds of dollars.  I would cry if I lost one of those boxes of beauties.  BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!    BE SAFE!!
