December Flies From the Vise

Another one from the Flyflasher site.  Appropriate, since I had to replace a busted clutch on the washing machine and had the plumber’s tape in hand.

hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - Veevus 8/0 tan 
tail - pheasant tail
rib - small wire brown 
abdomen - teflon tape 
thorax rib - single strand floss flame
thorax - dubbing golden olive 
hackle (thorax only) - dyed golden olive (4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow/, 1/2 Tsp Rit Camel/4 cups water)
collar - chukar dyed golden olive

Thread - Black

Tail - White hackle fibers

Ribbing - Fine flat silver tinsel

Body - Rear half, yellow wool; front half, red wool

Hackle - Brown as a wet fly collar

Wing - Black squirrel tail (to end of tail)

Head - Solarez Bone Dry UV Resin

Your spider is perfectly tied.  I see just the right amount of hackle and the body stops between the hook point and the barb, right where it should be.  Nice work!  Too often I see North Country spiders over-hackled, which defeats the purpose and effect of the hackle.

Great looking collar on that one, SB!  Is that a dubbing loop or split thread collar?  The more I see and use any kind of squirrel, tail and body hair, the more I like it.
