Bimini15 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2020 At first I thought my white deer hair was pretty crappy, then I realized it was calf hair in the wrong bag...

Bimini15 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2020 Every now and then I give craft fur another chance, just find out I still hate it.
SBPatt 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2020 There used to be a guy on one of the saltwater sites who tied some stunning flies with craft fur; wish I could remember who it was. I’ve never been able to make heads or tails of the stuff but then I don’t tie many baitfish flies. Regards, Scott

Coastfly and Holger Lachman (the one fly.com) are just two of the many I have seen. What I hate is how much material you waste and how the superfine trimmings get all over. I get the feeling that I am breathing them in and that I should wear a mask.
Guest Report post Posted December 28, 2020 Great thing about craft fur is it’s not tapered like hairs so trimming doesn’t effect its appearance/ action. Made a floater with alternating foam discs and flash/fur. The GCer is chartreuse/green looped dubbed shanks. Not much in the lil packs in fly shops but other sources around in bulk(MardiGras leggings). Reverse tie to create body... Last pic is the foam floaters; foam discs underneath the cf. Maction17 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2020 I've only been tying for a couple of weeks now, and this is my first attempt at packing deer hair. My own self-assessment: I think I made the first round of deer hair (collar) a bit too long, and the second round (head) I could've packed in a bit more. Overall I'm pleased with how it spun for me, and I suspect my trimming will get better.
