You can turn them into frogs.

Take two saddle hackle trimmed to popper size, like olive color, and tie both in so they curve out for one leg. Do the same for the other leg. Then, tie in one or two more saddle hackle to build up the body.  Paint the body to match and your done.

Endless possibilities... a “ traditional style” splayed hackle tail with hackle wound ahead and rubber legs either thru the body or tied after the hackle.  Stippled dots, 2 tones, glitter, flash, swimmer tails, weed guard, etc.   Wonder where “StippledPopper” went???

Depends on the size and style of the popper.  I use a lot of silicone spinnerbait skirts for tails and legs on my larger poppers.  Most have wrapped hackle.  Smaller ones marabou or sometimes stiffer artificial hair.  Here's a few.

I clip the legs off poppers I buy. Bluegill grab them and pull them under and don't get hooked. Might tie some for this year.

Thanks for all the examples guys. Got started tonight nothing fancy but it’ll catch fish. 

I don’t have much in terms of saddle hackles. I have lots of schlappen which seems too webby and long and a bunch of dry fly hackle that’s too small.

I use a mix of both.  Dry fly hackle on the small and medium poppers and saddle hackles on the larger one.  If you have necks you can find hackle for small and medium poppers on them.  Saddle hackle on the large ones and schlappen on the pike and saltwater ones.  There's no requirement that popper hackle has to be stiff.  What I usually do is prepare the popper bodies, color, add eyes then coat with UV resin as the first step.  Second step is to tie the tail and hackle on the hook shank.  Third step is slide the popper body on the hook and glue it in place.
