Joe Hard 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 Looks like a good mount unit, but now I have questions. What is the two posts and what is the center?
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 The two posts are just little posts for holding thread spools, the center is a small piece of a pegboard type material, I guess just for cushioning your tools if you were to drop them. Base weights 6lbs

Gilly 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 After you posted this, I got to thinking. Could I wine about not having a pedestal....no. I got a couple of pieces of that old futon I mentioned before and made myself a base. I drilled a whole bunch of holes on the bottom and glued in about 40-50 .50 cal lead round balls from my blackpowder gear. It wieghs about 3.5 lbs and does'nt move. I used a coat hanger as my "bobbin-holder-outta-the-wayer". I took the clamp vise and made it a more functional piece of kit. Thanks for your post and for getting me-a-thinkin. Ronn Lucas 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 I use a Nor Vise that I have mounted to a piece of 1/4" plastic sheet. Of course it is a rotary so there is never a need to look at the far side that a little rotation can't help. One view it will not give me is a eye back look so I can make sure a wing is exactly where I want it. Before you say it, yes, the rotation gives me sort of that look but not quite. My chair is on rollers so I just scoot over and look head on OR take the vise and twist it towards me. I have lightheartedly given Norm grief over this as I have for other shortcomings over the years. Some have been fixed and others, not. This is a not. It is a very small one though and I can easily overlook it. I do routinely pick up and move the vise and it is easy to do. You can take a pedestal vise virtually anywhere to tie but not so with a clamp. I also like the vise a little way into my bench rather than on the edge. Happy Trails! Big Will 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2005 My vise sits on a pedestal which ets moved around a lot. I also like pedestal style because if I take it anywhere like a class or to the stream or the shop orjust anywhere I don't half to worry about the table being thick enough for the c-clamp.
