May be just the addition of the tinsel that makes them appear different. Maybe a touch darker, for my flies. What all's in there? Thanks. Yes, two mixes. Top one is fox tail fuzz, arctic wind dubbing (the tinsel is in this stuff) and trash bucktail hair tips. Bottom one is just yarn and bucktail hairs. Toothy 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2021 Galloup's Downed/Crippled Dun with a twist of René Harrop One of my favorite patterns for mayflies that hatch during inclement weather that ends up knocking the duns down creating cripples. I often fish a two fly rig during a hatch with this style fly and an emerger beneath with great success. The curved hook and profile make this fly very unique and very effective. This style of fly really hunts! Materials Hook: TMC 101 Tail: Coq de Leon with an CDC Body: Tan goose biot Thorax: Tan SuperFine Dubbing Wing: EP Trigger Point Fiber in dun and black mixed. Hackle: Three turns of medium dun Whitting saddle one size larger than the hook size. Trimmed flat on the bottom

Christian, Thanks. You probably won’t have much luck getting Dai Riki hooks, unfortunately; they’ve either gone out of business or just stopped exporting to the U.S. There are plenty of other options, though. I've read some good advice on here, and one in particular has really stuck-- if a step looks wrong, rewind and do it again. Not to mention, those of us learning to tie in these days owe a lot to those who post on YouTube. Videos undoubtedly accelerate my learning curve. Meeshka 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2021 I tie it too DFoster. I do however use the smallest black bead I can for the head - I don't know if the fish notice.
