Taking a lot of liberties with a Danish seatrout pattern.  The multicolor twisted wire creates an interesting effect

Your BEST flies belong in a frame - the rest the fish get to see!

@WWKimba I have absolutely seen some flys and pictures of flys on this forum that I would frame! Unfortunately none of them came from my vise yet.

I think this was Dave Brandt’s favorite Classic Catskill fly. Art Flick’s “Red Quill.”  Dave use to walk around the shows with a small biological

test tube filled with water and stripped Rhode Island red quills in his breast pocket.   Dave was a great guy and he was always good for a informative chat. He was an expert on the methods of tying woodduck wings though he had his favorite way of tying them in.  I learned that not all woodduck flank feathers are the same and Dave told me he spent hours sorting through them for the ones that would work the best. Dave will be missed by the many who would see him and chat with him at the various shows during the off season. R.I.P. Dave

“Red Quill”

Hook.  .......   Mustad 98482     Sz 14

Thread.   ...   Utc 70. Olive

Tail.        .....  Cdl.  *** should be dun hackle but I didn’t have a color that I was satisfied with.

Body.     ......  Rhode Island red rooster quill stripped and uved

Wings.  ......   Wood duck flank

Hackle. ......  Collins rooster cape barred dark dun *** one of my favorite colors***

@Moshup Thats so nice! A work of art for sure.

Eh ! thanks .  A little bump in the middle I don’t like. The thing is I can’t even see that blemish until I magnify it to take a picture. Frustrating. Art Flick was a really nice guy as well. I was just getting out of college when I met him at a TU dinner.

@Moshup I totally understand that! I tie with glasses on and a magnifier with a light and still cant see well. Pictures are very revealing.  Thats cool that you got to meet Art Flick!
