2021 Fishing Goals

I want grandchildren. After years of telling my kids that it won't be okay if they come home pregnant it's time for them to get off the pot. i want to build go-karts, chop and stretch bicycles and launch some rockets. Fishing with them, Sure, why not but it's low on the list of cool things to do with kids.

I was the uncle that did that.  Without any of my own, I won't be able to re-live that experience with the wisdom, peace and don't give a shit what they think that comes with age.

I mostly get out on my local waters in the mornings and fish to the early in the afternoons in the spring/summer. I'd like to try more afternoons and evenings in the hopes of catching spinner falls this time around. That's about it, really. 🙂

Hmmm...After back issues in 2019 leading to surgery in December of that year followed by months of rehab, plus another situation keeping me off of any stream for 2 years...at this point I just want to spend some time on a favorite creek or river in 2021. I am in physical rehab again...but time things look good for me to wet a line again and soon!!

Tying flies can be fun...but it sure isn't a substitute for getting into the water and using those flies - 😎

That's like setting a goal to become the best fly angler ever.  It's unrealistic to believe it can be done under the auspices of a "resolution".  Definitely unrealistic to believe it can be done in one year.  It'll be a constant and never-ending improvement cycle, not a goal to be achieved.

fish more, ride my bike more.   Same as all the other years.   Same as all the other years this thing called "work" gets in the way.   Having never been less than full-time employed for the last 34 years, obviously I'm too dumb to figure out how to make it happen.   Just bought a house less than a mile from the "famous" Letort Spring Run, so I'll need to work on my super-smart holier-than-thou trouts skills.   Moving house AGAIN right now,  getting settled, trying to get a deck built so I can use my grill, hopefully to grill some trout I catch....  Thanks to one of my kayak fishing buddies who got back into fly fishing in a big way in 2020,  I was back at it quite a bit last year.   I got a 20+ lb Musky on my five weight while fishing for bass, so that was a bucket list fish I won't likely repeat.   Honestly my FF GOAL for the upcoming year is to get on a bunch of good sized bluegills or crappies and have enough for a fish fry.   It's been a few years since I was able to do that.   This year I am hoping to get a springtime trip up to lake erie, and again in the fall.   It's not looking good.

Just like it has been for years, my goal it is to catch a tarpon.

An FYI for anyone heading down south Florida way - we're just starting our winter night time tarpon season -small fish, average 20 to 40lbs - but very hungry and all of them are sightfished under big city bridges between Miami and Miami Beach...

Mine is a 30 inch rainbow. I've seen 3 of them come out of my favorite Ice fishing lake. My biggest to day was a 28 1/2 inch one.

Expand my list of Alaskan sport fish caught on an original fly pattern of my own. I'm at 29 now.

My only other one is to try and fish more 😁.
