A neat, old-school pattern from Jay Nicholas. Original called for a body of muskrat or grey yarn but I still had the coyote underfur in the comb from the Rat pattern so I used it here.

hook - WFC Model 3 #10
thread - Veevus 8/0 black
tail - calftail white
abdomen - dubbing coyote
thorax - dubbing dark olive
wing - calftail white (butts from tail; trimmed)
hackle - grizzly/brown

Regards,
Scott

Hendrickson Biot Comparadun

A wonderfully simple and effective pattern just jazzed up a bit with use of a biot abdomen. I am a sucker for a biot body!  I first saw this style of comparadun wing tied by Charlie Craven.  If you look at the wing from behind (in the second photo) you can see the butts of the deer hair wing.  The wing is trimmed to length prior to tying it on to the hook and the butts are left to make a handsome little sunburst shape behind the wing. No need to trim the butts after tying the wing in if done correctly.

Nathan,

Nice. I prefer Charlie’s version over the standard Compara/Sparkleduns; for me, they’re quicker/easier  to tie and the exposed deer hair butts provide more buoyancy.

Scott

I agree with each of your observations Scott. Additionally, I think it really just looks cool!

Starting to restock my stream box as I anticipate warmer weather.  Spotted Bass, Largemouth and the occasional overzealous green sunfish all seem to love these little crease flies.

Mcflyangler inspired bluegill spiders.   Luckily i have plenty of rubber legs on hand.   Quick ties and should be a lot of fun for spring panfish.

Another pink Albert. Same as the one before but with a lemon wood duck flank wing.

These suckers better be coming off, I hope, the week of July 18 on the Henry's Fork and some waters in Yellowstone.
