The tying seems to be at a different level this month.  You guys are intimidating!  Beautiful and complicated work.

Thanks! Yes, Rene has some incredibly beautiful and effective patterns! I also tied one cutting the tip off of the CDC puffs, but it just ended up looking like an RS2.  I actually kind of like how leaving the tips makes them look like unfurling wings.

@Toothy  First off let me say that those were both very nice ties. I pick from Rene's playbook quite often too. Thanks for the update about the RS2-ishness of those emergers when you cut the butts off the puffs. That short wing is on my to do list for the pink alberts (Epeorus) for this summers trip to YNP and Last Chance.

Very nice flies billj60, is that soft hackle quail or partridge?

It is partridge that I dyed a soft yellow.

Thanks for the positive comments guys!

CDC Short Wing Emergers

I really like fishing Rene Harrop's short wing emerger at the beginning of a hatch.  It is a very effective fly and catches a boat load of fish.  Decided to try experimenting with CDC in place of duck quill.
