Oh my my!

Recommended Posts

I have to admit, when my parents bought me a pair of these for Christmas as a joke, my mind immediately went to tying mops 😂 They were a little confused when I brought the slippers down to my bench and started snipping off the individual mops. Gotta say, they make pretty nice flies, albeit a little larger than I’d normally fish.

There are smaller mops around.  Buggy looking but after missing strikes and sniping off even the little ones I’ve phased out of mop flies.  Glad others like them and have success.

If I didn't already have so many patches of mop pieces, I'd order a couple of those things. Generally, I have decent luck with them.

I'm surprised that smaller mop pieces haven't shown up in the fly catalogs.  Fat mop pieces look a bit weird tied on size 12 hooks.  Generally, I keep my "nymphs" simple, usually just a thorax of micro chenille or peacock herl.  Might do a few soft hackles, have check and see what I have in size 12 hooks.  The floating ones pretty much the same just a thorax and a foam head.  I use a size 12 Gamakatsu B10S

I have better luck with floating mop flies for panfish.  The sunfish pretty much destroyed my yellow and blue ones the last time I did some fishing.  The bass in my avatar ate one of the yellow ones.  I tie them on size 6  Gamakatsu B10S hooks. I plan to use polar chenille on the blue ones to give the impression of wings.

no mop flies for squatch

Good thing you would be buying hooks by thousands to use the mops from squatch's slippers!
