It would allow nothing larger than a 2/0 into the jaws ala todays versions. What is the vintage of the one in the photo? George My vise was made in December 2019. I remember reading post back during the introduction of the vise (late 2017) and people complained about the same issue. HMH say's they're are on their 3rd generation of Jaws. I don't know if my vise is 2nd or 3rd generation. I do know that the 1st generation of jaws had a terrible finish on them and were apparently soft. Here's a photo that I dug up of an early model. Notice the jaws are silver and on the newer models they're almost black. For comparison here is my vise from 2019-
SalarMan 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2021 Dean: Like I said to Mark...you guys have given me food for thought. I know where I can get one brand new with free shipping and no sales tax. I have been agonizing over this for ages and I know I will decide before this day is over. As a side note, I am going to send some hooks to Toothy and he is going to give them a try in the FNF Talon. All this proves me to more and more every day just how great this site is.
Mark Knapp 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2021 20 minutes ago, SalarMan said: I'm talking filing both of the jaws Mark. Perhaps 1/32" on each. I would worry about grinding. Despite great care, and I am very good with my hands, I would worry about the metal temperature rising just a bit too much and reducing the temper of the jaws. Filing would be SLOW, but still maybe the way to go. You've given me food for thought. You can try a file, I slid a file across mine and it wouldn't cut it. It just skated across it. That was at the jaw end, they might be softer on the screw end.
