That just screams emerging caddis pupa! That body is DOPE! I see the body material says FTD, what kind of product is it?

DarrellP the body is DOPE indeed!  Thanks for the positive feedback.  I had the idea in my mind for a week and when I finally tied it, it looked better than I thought.  My only concern is that it may get shredded easily by fish teeth.  In that case I can wind some tippet material around it for more ribbing to strengthen it without affecting the asthetics.  I can see using that body for a deep sparkle pupa type fly as well.  I started buying from FTD probably 6 months ago.  They have some innovative products, the pricing is good and the shipping is fast.

FlyTire I've used beads like this in some caddis pupa patterns -- a string of green beads with a clear one in the lead (next to the hook) to emulate the air bubble.  Sometimes that seems to really slay them.  Will try to upload a pic later this week.

Darrell,  with small poppers or streamers I tell my anglers to actually disregard what they can see (if anything) - just to keep their line tight with the rod tip right down in the water a bit - pointing directly where that bug or streamer landed... You'll feel the bite long before you can react to anything you see.   Now if only I could get them to strip strike and never try to strike a fish with the fly rod...  but that's something that every freshwater angler does.  It just doesn't work very well on the salt....

LOL, it works both ways. Anytime I am on a stream/river I have to practice downstream sets to get out of the strip strike routine.

And I will still end up strip striking 50 percent of the time...

Here's the glass bead caddis pupa i was talking about. Instead of using thread or tippet to string the beads, in this one I used a rubberleg.  The thorax is FTD Krap Dubbing - Blackish, plus I have some feathers in there including some wood duck strands for the antennae.

niveker, thanks.   It's strange, the frist time I used this pattern it crushed them, outperforming other pupa patterns.  They were nailing it almost instantaneously, hitting it hard.  The second time I used it, it was no better than any other caddis pattern.  Who knows why?

LOL, yeah.  I've had that happen, even within the same day sometimes.
