DFoster, do you ever have problems with that tubing trapping air inside and inhibiting sink rate?  Or do you just wrap tight enough that the air is squeezed out?  To avoid the trapped air, I bought some solid material from Amazon -- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006DRFACW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1  -- but the problem is that you can't avoid adding bulk when you secure the end onto the hook.  I was using it to tie baetis nymphs because I noticed they seem to be translucent.

Swimming crab:

Hook: Standard length saltwater, 1/0

Thread: Uni-Thread 6/0, dk. brown

Tail: Calf tail, brown

Flash: Flashabou Holo, rootbeer

Claw supports: 50lb mono

Claws/body: Zonker Strip, black barred gold variant

Eyes: Bead chain, large, black

Body: Cactus chenille, pearl rootbeer

Weedguard: 50lb mono

Legs: Sili-legs, brown/orange glitter

The goal of this pattern was to great a very flowy looking body. The legs are pushed down so they will fall vertically when stripped and provide a lot of movement.

i dont think there will be a huge volume of air trapped in a very short length of tubing to affect the fly

it will collapse and go flat depending on how tighly it was wrapped

bulk can be avoided by snipping the tubing to a point before tying it on

vDAO23T.jpg

tubing can be filled with wire

you can also melt the end and stretch as shown in the following video. thats good for solid beading cord or hollow tubing
