SBPatt 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2021 (Not Quite) Picric Mayfly Found a color (Electric Shock) that approached picric on the Rit site but that turned out to be way too green so I cut the Neon Green in half and came up with this; more of a chartreuse, which is a nice find but not quite what I wanted. I’ll try Golden Yellow instead of Lemon and see what that’s like. hook - WFC Model 6 #8 thread - Danville 6/0 light olive tail - bleached pheasant tail dyed nq picric (2 Tsp Rit Lemon Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Neon Green/2 cups water) rib - small wire gold body - dubbing nq picric body hackle - grizzly dyed nq picric shoulder - chukar dyed nq picric Regards, Scott

If you can cast it with a fly rod I guess it counts; as bad as I am, i’d wear a batting helmet, though. Regards, Scott
SBPatt 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2021 (Not quite) Picric Muddler The deer hair, being greyish in color, came much closer to what I was hoping for. Makes sense; grey + yellow = olive. The dubbing was from a piece of grey rabbit, which, like the deer, has a more olive cast to it. Guess I could fish it as a green drake if I dropped down to a #10, or a Skwala, even though they’re more of a dirty motor oil color on the rivers I fish (the trout are even dumber than usual in early spring and don’t seem to mind the difference). hook - WFC Model 6 #8 thread - Uni 6/0 light olive tail - bleached pheasant rump dyed nq picric (2 Tsp Rit Lemon Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Neon Green/2 cups water) rib - small wire gold body - dubbing nq picric (dark) body hackle - grizzly dyed nq picric shoulder - pheasant rump dyed nq picric head/collar - deer hair dyed nq picric Regards, Scott
DFoster 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2021 On 10/15/2021 at 10:33 AM, terp said: DFoster, do you ever have problems with that tubing trapping air inside and inhibiting sink rate? Or do you just wrap tight enough that the air is squeezed out? To avoid the trapped air, I bought some solid material from Amazon -- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006DRFACW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 -- but the problem is that you can't avoid adding bulk when you secure the end onto the hook. I was using it to tie baetis nymphs because I noticed they seem to be translucent. I have not had an issue with air being trapped and I can't say that I'm wrapping the tubing overly tight. The under body is just thread so perhaps there is not much space for air to get trapped? I use UTC vinyl rib and it is not hollow. If you look carefully there is a flat side and a curve side, I tie the flat side against the hook shank.
