rib - xsmall wire gold
abdomen - bleached hare’s ear
body hackle - ginger
shoulder - bleached pheasant rump
collar/head - pronghorn

Body - Black uni stretch or floss

Throat - Brown hen hackle fibers

Wing - White hair (your choice, I used calf tail)

Salt version of the classic  “Magog Smelt”.  This a variant of the freshwater version.  It’s a killer on the stripers

when scantily dressed.

Thanks Niveker.   The game is still afoot though diminishing I’m done for the season. I did have

Tying note - Coat the body and thorax area with crazy glue prior to wrapping the peacock herl forward for added durability. Ribbing material such as tying thread, wire, uni stretch, xsmall flat or oval tinsel can also be used for added durability.

Weight – Lead/lead free wire, full body length

Body - Embossed flat silver tinsel.

Throat – Red hackle fibers, long

Wing – Blue over white bucktail

Head - Built up to minnow-shape with tying thread, then painted silver

Eyes – Painted yellow over black

The variant fly style is called a Comet. 

  • Hook: #6 straight eye
  • Thread: Flat waxed nylon 210D yellow
  • Body: Flat waxed nylon 210D yellow gold ribbed
  • Tail: BT bright yellow
  • Butt: FTB artic wind hot yellow
  • 1st Wing: BT orange
  • 2nd Wing: Rabbit fur dyed yellow with orange tips
