Had a bit of time recently to catch up on shopwork... Sometimes guiding means using what you have without replacing much of anything until a bit of downtime is on hand.  In this case no rods needed fixing, new rods to be wrapped and placed into service are almost caught up, most of my reels are working properly - so it was time to do a bit of re-cycling on flies and lures that have been chewed up, have rusty hooks - or just in general needed some care.  Each item was rinsed off in freshwater before being allowed to dry then it just sat until recently... Here's a pic of the first batch...

Mostly flies and bucktails for the backcountry.  Fishing in salt or brackish water means that hooks corrode, and after a long wet season some materials have deteriorated before even being used...   It's an ongoing process...

I really enjoyed that steelhead series. Great work!  Are you catching any?

they were atlantic salmon flies but they could crossover for steelhead

there is a river about 2 miles from my house thate the state of connecticut stocks with brood atlantic salmon. it mostly flows near private property so i dont bother fishing it

there are other rivers in connecticut that the state stocks with atlantic salmon but i dont fish them either

no steelhead in connecticut

i just enjoy tying hairwing salmon and steelhead flies

i'll have to find a website to sell them. here is not the place

Got the quail skins years ago and haven’t used them much, but there are lots of possibilities here.  The feathers are kinda like a reverse-image chukar

Similar to hen pheasant

Still messing around with buck tail.   Tied up some more Clousers, these for my own use.  Figure they should catch me some panfish, maybe even a bass or two.

Hook: Daihichi 2461, size 6

Thread: Clear Polyester

Weight: dumbbell eyes, various sizes and colors

Wing: bucktail, various colors

Flash:  chartreuse or pearl crystal flash

Not exactly fly tying, though I do plan on tying some bucktails on 1/32 oz and 1/20 oz jigs to use with my 6 wgt.  Four of us fish together, I'm the only one that fly fishes.  Since the let me fish from their boats I plan on tying some bucktail jigs for them over the winter.  These are the first two.

Nation's Green Sedge

A variation of a Grizzly King, no?  Great looking fly in any case.

Edit:   Maybe not, just did a quick search on the pattern, came up with this interesting post: Nation's Green Sedge (Caddis).

Yes, but developed independently, I believe.  Nation is quoted a good bit in the Western Angler by Haig-Brown.

Thanks Darrell, I really enjoy the historical aspect of some of these older fly patterns.

Yeah. I am kind of a history nerd about fly origins.
