flytire 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2021 March Dun Hook - Mustad 3399 or equivalent Thread - Black Tag - Flat gold tinsel Body - Medium green wool, picked out Wing - Light slate Trout - Ray Bergman As simple as this fly looks, I tied it 3 times to get it right. The duck quills I have are just crap to work with. I ended up using wing primary feather quills from a matched pair of Eurasian Jay. A nice light slate color. SBPatt 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2021 McPhail’s Orkney Sunburst Muddler (variation) Here’s his video if you’re interested; I skipped the legs (don’t have any) and added a shoulder instead hook - WFC Model 6 #10 thread - Uni 8/0 fire orange tag - medium tinsel holo red rib - small wire gold body - dubbing neon melon body hackle - dyed sunburst (1 Tbs Rit Golden Yellow/1 cup water) shoulder - sharptail grouse dyed neon peach (2 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/8 Tsp Rit Coral/1 cup water) Collar/head - deer hair dyed burnt orange (3 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/8 Tsp Rit Cocoa Brown/1 cup water) Haven’t worked out the proper dye mixture to approximate the Bann Valley Supernatural in coral yet, so I chopped up and blended some yellow and fuchsia/magenta yarn and got a neat color. It’s probably not a match and it’s doubtful the stupid trout I fish for will appreciate the effort but they may bite. Regards, Scott
