Playing around with different materials.  Neither of the shoulders provide much contrast/ definition; blue-dyed chukar and unbleached pheasant rump dyed darker olive on the next one although that’s more for my benefit than the fish’s.

hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 chartreuse
tag/rib - Glo Brite #11/resin
tail - bleached pheasant tail dyed neon olive (2 Tsp Rit Lemon Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Neon Green/2 cups water)

body hackle - grizzly dyed neon olive
1st shoulder - hen grizzly dyed Silver Doctor Blue (2 packs Koolaid Ice Blue Raspberry/1 cup water)
2nd shoulder - bleached pheasant rum dyed neon olive

Lunch Money tied on a #6 B10s. Got a little heavy with the laser dub, but otherwise turned out pretty well and a quick, pretty easy streamer to tie.

Still tying Clousers for my SW club's table at the January Fly Fishing show in.  These are heavy duty ones tied to imitate larger sand eels.  The hook is a discontinued TMC saltwater streamer hook.  The closest contemporary hook I could find to it was the TMC 9395.  I made up the dumbbell eyes myself.  Ingredients, heavy wire used to make spinner baits, large tungsten cones, thread, super glue and UV resin.  The flies weigh 4 grams each. Not sure I'd want to fish them with my 8 wgt.

Chris, these seem very clever.  How do you fish them?  Like a nymph or a streamer or both?  And I assume you use them for trout.  Thanks.

They can be fished as either a streamer or nymph   And, yes, I tied them as part of a trout box re-stock.  I did, however, give them a test run with the local panfish on Tuesday afternoon.  Happy to say the local Crappie approved of the olive version.  Just need to go back and make some tweaks on the next few.  Primarily a few wraps of flash around the shank to the rear of the Ostrich Herl.

A real catchy name; found this among the Happy Flyfischer’s offerings. Sometimes chukar lays down so nicely it makes me want to cry; this one fought me on every wrap.

Black Drake Soft Hackle

A Dick Winter Fly Pattern

Hook - Mustad 94840, size 10-12

Thread - Brown

Tail - White neck hackle fibers

Body - Brown or maroon wool

Rib - Gray mono-cord or silver oval tinsel

Thorax - Peacock herl

Collar - White or cream hen hackle

Dick Winter's Black Drake Soft Hackle is tied using a maroon or brown body ribbed with contrasting gray mono-cord ribbing. The fly is part of a life-cycle series and based on Polly Rosborough patterns. Dick and Polly were partners in a fly-tying business in the 1970's working together closely. Dick's patterns balance simplicity and realism. Being a commercial fly tyer, simple patterns were preferred especially when several dozen are required to be tied in an afternoon.
