Hollywood’s Golden Olive Mayfly (variation)

Changed up the front end of the original, subbing brighter shoulder feathers, since I’m out of darker olive chukar and partridge and my dyes are currently 1900 miles away.

hook - WFC Model 6 #10
thread - Danville 6/0 chartreuse 
tail - pheasant tail
tag - Orvis saltwater thread fluoro orange/resin
rib - small wire chartreuse 
body - dubbing dyed golden olive (2 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Camel/2 cups water)
body hackle - dyed golden olive
1st shoulder - partridge dyed neon olive (2 Tsp Rit Lemon Yellow, 1/4 Tsp Rit Neon Green/2 cups water) 
2nd shoulder - chukar dyed neon olive

Tail - Red hackle fibers

Underbody - Yellow yarn

Overbody - Peacock herl

Ribbing - Oval silver or gold tinsel

Wing - Woodchuck hair

Hackle (crown) - Deer hair, shaped and trimmed into a top-knot

Jack’s Doodlebug can be fished either dry or wet and works on rivers, streams and ponds. Fast water or still, this is a great fly. Jack originally designed this fly as an attractor pattern to be used when there are no insects on the water. Jack developed this fly while in his original shop in Luzerne, Michigan.

Abdomen - Yellow floss overwound with copper tinsel – space winds so that the yellow shows as a rib 

Thorax - Peacock herl

 Hackle -  One turn of plover wing covert (I used barred ginger hackle)
