A vintage pattern; found this version on John Kreft’s site. Haven’t pulled the Furry Foam out in a while; can’t say whether it’s any more effective than a dubbed body.

hook - Dai Riki 300 #10
thread - Uni 8/0 black
tail - hen grizzly dyed olive
rib - peacock herl
counterrib - small wire gold
body - Furry Foam tan/colored with olive & black marker
shoulder - hen grizzly dyed olive

Scott

Time to interrupt the flow of really good looking trout flies.   Last night at my SW club's zoom tying meeting we tied a couple shad flies following a couple of you tube videos.

Shad Dart Recipe:
Hook: #6 Mustad 3366A
Thread: 6/0 Fire Orange Uni-Thread
Eyes: 5/32 Hourglass Eyes
Tail: White Kip (Calf) Tail
Body: Orange Flash
Head: Orange Ultra Chenille
I had to improvise since I didn't have any calf tail.  Used pearl flash for the tail and tied them on gold Eagle Claw Aberdeen Crappie hook, size 6

Kip Tailed Clouser Recipe:
Thread: Pink Danville's 210 Denier
Hook: Mustad 3366 Size 6
Eyes: Hour Glass Brass Eyes X-small 5/32 (Copper Color)
Tail: White Kip (Calf) tail, Pink Flash Accent (Flashabou)
Throat: Pink Flashabou
Wing: Pink Kip Tail

Again no calf tail, so I used the traditional buck tail and the Eagle Claw hooks.

I've been fishing a floating woolly bugger for several years.  Sort of based it on the "booby fly" but I used dumbbell eyes  made from foam cylinders to float them.  I was cleaning up my dark side tackle box and came across some large round nightcrawler floats I used at some point to fish for walleyes.  When I'm finished tying them, I'll have a half dozen "booby buggers"  for my warm water box.

My wife is out of town so the kitchen table has become a fly tying table for the next several days. Sex Dungeons and Hippie Stompers have been the result so far.

Traded the woodduck flank shoulder for pheasant rump; less accurate in terms of materials used on the traditional fly, but didn’t have to resort to a hair dryer and steam to get it to behave.

hook - WFC Model 6 #10
thread - Uni 8/0 black
tag - medium tinsel opal
rib - small wire silver
body - dubbing muskrat/hare’s ear
body hackle - dun
1st shoulder - chukar partridge rump
2nd shoulder - bleached pheasant rump

Spent some time this weekend tying up a few larger deceivers for my trip to the northeast in May.

Really liked the one below, so I decided to give it a test run out back.  Caught a ~4 lbs largemouth on the fourth cast.

Not bad for a chilly January morning.

My first (and WAY overdue!) contribution to this page.  I still do not have a camera BUT I do have a swap buddy (from another site) who does have one and he lives about 20 minutes from me!  I tie and give him the flies to take pictures of and he gives me the pictures and he keeps the flies.  It's quite the deal - he takes lovely pictures and he gets my ugly ties!! 😄

This is a tie of my doing BUT, as you can see, HEAVILY influenced by Harry Murray's James Wood Bucktail.  I call the series my Martini series:

The Midnight Martini - a nice low light pattern and the one that started this series

Image preview

Hook - Mustad 9674, 2-10

Thread - black or olive

Body - black chenille

Bucktail Halo - black bucktail with black flash (flash-a-bou used here)  2 strands each mid-line

Gill - red chenille

Head - dark olive chenille wrapped ~twice the diameter of the body

The Dirty Martini - an all-around silver/grey minnow/baitfish pattern

Image preview

Hook - Mustad 9674, 2-10

Thread - black or olive

Body - grey chenille

Bucktail Halo - black bucktail with silver flash (Krystalflash used here) 2 strands each mid-line

Gill - red chenille

Head - (medium) olive chenille wrapped ~twice the diameter of the body

Who knows this answer? - Just how did the James Wood Bucktail get its name?  (answer to follow in a couple days)

More to follow.

Maybe it’s just me but I’m not seeing any pictures kimba. Or maybe they are actual size 52 flies.
