Yep.  Nice catch!  I caught them up to about 7.5" on small streamers, woolly buggers and damsel fly patterns this past year.  Hoping one of Kim's series of flies can push me into the 9-10" range before I submit for a state record.  They sure are fun on a UL fly rod.

Howell May Fly Nymph, Blue Dun

Hook - Mustad 3906, size 14-16
Thread - Gray
Tail - Blue dun hackle fibers
*Ribbing - Gold wire
Body - Dark peacock quill
Thorax - Blue dun hackle wrapped closely and clipped to form a rounded thorax. 
Leave a few hackle fibers extending out from each side for legs

*The recipe does not indicate a wire rib but the illustration shows it.

Note: This style of nymph can be tied in as many colors as there are shades of hackles.

Hook - Mustad 9671 or equivalent

Thread - Black

Rear hackle - Dark ginger. Hackle should be rather short and not exceed much passed the hook point

Ribbing - Gold wire reversed wrapped

Body - Peacock herl. Wrap an underbody of wool yarn to give the body fullness

Front hackle - Dark ginger. Roughly the same length or slightly longer than the rear hackle
