Bill Peabody commercialized the use of woven Mylar threads in saltwater fly tying.  Unfortunately Bill passed away way too young in 1998.  He was a saltwater fly designer, tying instructor, saltwater guide and one of the nicest guys on the planet.  Bill’s bodi braid or Bill’s body braid is available in lots of fly shops in lots of colors.  I believe there are a couple of YouTube vids where he ties his Rhode Island Flat Wing pattern as well as a few other patterns. The braid maybe more familiar to northeast salty guys.

I can remember receiving samples of Bill’s braid some years ago but it was a bit fine for my needs… I’d already been able to have custom made, tons of braid in larger sizes, mostly in pearl (spools of the stuff, hundreds of yards at a time, done up for me by Pat Dunlop at Cascade Crest).  The most recent pattern I’ve posted on this site, a bendback fly, clearly shows the braid I’ve used the most for bodies on larger patterns….

thread - Uni 8/0 tan
rib - tying thread
body - Lion Wool Ease oatmeal
body hackle - ginger

Found this version here.

hook - Sierra 2312 #10
thread - Uni 6/0 olive dun
tail - golden pheasant crest dyed hot orange
rib - small wire gold
body - tinsel gold
underwing - Congo Hair olive
wing - deer hair
hackle - dun

An attractor pattern; definitely an optimistic perspective of this bug, since most of the ones I’ve seen are sludge colored.

Very nice tie.  Really a great, versatile pattern I forget about until I see one again.
