Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2022 9 hours ago, DFoster said: Here's an attractor pattern that I wasn't really sure I should post because I consider it my own design. I know, I know and I hate saying that because with what must be hundreds of thousands of fly tyers in the world it would not surprise me if someone starts screaming that their uncle Frank used to tie the exact same thing and he even got it published it in a book back in 1992! Then the next thing you know uncle Frank is at your house banging on your door with a gun. Anyway this pattern is created from common methods and techniques that we all know and love. And with all apologies to uncle Frank I can say that I arrived at it on my own. This fly has been productive for me anytime terrestrials are working, locally that can be June through October here in the Northeast. I fish it exactly as an emerger at the surface. No floatant, dead drift in the surface film. A subtle twitch of the rod can make the legs kick. THE TINY MONSTER DF! I like everything about this fly, the eyes, the bugginess, the common materials, the simplicity. Really really nice creation. I’m gonna tie some of these and call them the THE DF TINY MONSTER. Super fly.

DFoster 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2022 I love tying and fishing winged wets and this one just looks "right" to me. Hopefully the local trout feel the same way. I don't remember where I found the pattern but it had a brief note that seems to indicate that it was related to President Eisenhower in some way (see below). If anyone knows the true history please post. WWKimba 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2022 Here are a couple warm water, off the beaten path 2X2's. Lefty's Bug - The great Lefty Kreh designed this pattern to catch Smallmouths on the Potomac River near his Maryland home. You can add eyes, rubber legs and other accoutrements but this simple version works just as well! You can just see it in the picture, but I chose a red head with a full yellow face. Chose the color(s) you wish - and I used SHHAN in red and yellow. Hook - Mustad 9672, 2-14 Thread - black or to match Tail - squirrel tail, grey or red (grey chosen here) Head - small cork, slit cut in bottom to accommodate the shank, color your choice (red with yellow face chosen here), Lefty usually went with all yellow Tinsel Fly - A simple bass/crappie/panfish pattern Hook - Mustad 9671 or 9672, 4-10 Thread - red or black Tail - white marabou Optional Underbody - red yarn Body - tinsel - color of choice

SBPatt 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2022 Panfish Pazooka (variation) Found it here Instead of a wing, I wrapped the tippet to give it a more leggy appearance. Since I’ve caught bluegill and pumpkinseeds on a bare hook, anything more than thread could be considered extravagant. hook - WFC Model 6 #8 thread - Uni 8/0 black tail - golden pheasant tippet rib - Orvis saltwater thread fluoro orange (doubled) abdomen - yarn olive thorax - dubbing fluoro orange 1st shoulder - golden pheasant tippet 2nd shoulder - hen black Regards, Scott
