TB your killin me bud...i've been starting to tie more&more hair wing salmon flies every since the swap because that was the first hair wings i ever really tried and i enjoyed tying those patterns. But with you posting hair wings like that i look at yours then look at mine and feel like i must be tying with my feet!
Your flies are simply works of art TB i hope i can be half as accomplished at tying those someday.
SD
tb,
Sweet fly!! how do you build a head that small with all that hair under it? even doing minimal wraps, I still end up with a huge head.
sd,
I'm doing more hair wing flies this year more then ever as well. That swap really got the juices flowing on that one. A little frustating at times, but they look so sweet.
Art
Making a small head is very simple materilas management and camoflage. You start tying in the wing well back on the shank and layer each color one on top of the other. Then all of that is hidden underneath the collar.
Nice tye TroutBum.. I havent tyed to many salmon flies myself, but I'm tying this one up for sho..
Okay, I'm not asking to be a smarty... these flies are beautiful, but do they catch fish?
Yes they do if you can bring yourself to tie one of these beautiful flies on your line

If I were on a trip to a famous salmon river and this is what they were eating, you can bet you life that I would fish with one of these. Shoot, I'd use a Jock Scott to catch one!
Very nice Hair wing!!!
