  1. Sally Hansen still make a silver nail polish? I like to use some on underside of salt water teasers and flies......Any experience with other manufacturers' silver polish? Thanks.
  2. Thanks for the excellent advice. Did one once before a year ago (which is how I got hooked on tying flies...........tied one bucktail and I was "hooked").......but think I just washed it once. Will start the process on Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
  3. Got a nice deer tail from my son's recent kill. How to clean it for fly tying use?
  4. Has anyone owned/tied on the F-C Enhanced Vise?
  5. Anyone have any experience with the feather-craft.com vise made by Dyna King..........? Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the advice. The hardest part for me is tying smaller heads, and I continue to work on that. I've made quite a few teasers already (deceivers, clouser minnows, bucktail deceivers) and have tied them to leaders, ready to attach to the main line as you suggested. Always touch up the mustad hooks out of the box; amazing how much sharper the TMC's are. All we need now is weather (less important) and fish (most important). Can start fishing for small bass and blues on the bay side by the beginning of June, usually.
  7. I'm a rod and reel guy making flies to use as streamers......Lefty's Deceiver a popular choice, and I think I'm getting better.........yellow saddle, white bucktail belly, olive wing and peacock herl on top...red flashabou for gills....3/0 hook (for the big stipers). May add eyes, but the blue fish will destory it anyway (at least they'll be attracted to it).
  8. As a surfcaster with rod & reel, I am a beginner at well and so far have exclusively been tying flies to be used as teasers.....Lefty's deceivers, bucktail deceivers and clousers so far. Best bucktail so far has come from Stockard.......White, yellow, black, olive, red, light blue, and chartreuse are the colors I have been using......with white being the most predominant, since almost always used for the underside. Futzer, what sythentic material would you use instead of bucktail for saltwater teasers? Fishair? Superhair?
  9. Thanks for all the tips and advice. Always appreciated.
  10. I have purchased a lot of things from Stockard and agree with your excellent assessment. I did epoxy the head after the picture was taken. Thanks.
  11. Wondering where experienced fly tiers buy their best full bucktails online. I have used Hareline and they seem fine, and am thinking of trying Spirit River. Any and all suggestions for brands/suppliers would be appreciated. Also attaching my first Clouser Minnow.............
  12. Once the tip of the saddle feather is used for a fly, can the rest of the feather be used as well? Shape the end where it was cut into a point?
  13. I'm an attorney with my own small practice in the beautiful town of East Hampton, NY.....minutes from some of the most beautiful bay and ocean bays around. New to fly tying, for now making a variety of teasers for my surfcasting ways (with rod & reel).
  14. Mark: Thanks for the PM..........Unfortunately, I am not a fly fisherman........just an old dark side surfcaster......all the flies I'm tying are for teasers.........though I suspect I'll be tempted to try switching over to the light side!
  15. I appreciate all the comments. I was in the process of finishing the add, by adding eyes..........but thought it looked so nice, I was anxious to show it off (as the newest of newcomers). The heavier the better, really, for surfcasting, I think...........
