    TMC 300

Thanks guys for all the help! Later when I get home I will post the hooks I like for ESL.. they are shorter shanked but boy do they hold!
  2. I have some Tiemco 300 size two hooks that I use for trout and am out of my go to hook for Egg Sucking Leeches. Would the Tiemco 300 be too light for steelhead? I am planning on tying some patterns for an upcoming trip to the Salmon river in upstate NY. Thanks
  3. Great shot YGH I will be makeing the trip soon to the SR hope I do as well as you... they should put you in a quality controll department as it looks like you know how to pick primo players.
  4. Thanks for the helpful suggestions I am new to tying spey flies and just bought some Alex Jackson hooks and spey hackles now all I need is floss and tinsel. Any suggestions for wrapping spey hackle? For some reason the flies just didn’t look right maybe I am choosing hackles that are too short.
  5. thats good I read it quick and thought is was titled kings prawn... either way great fly what hook did you use?
  6. Jens can you give instructions as to what materials you use to tie this fly. It looks amazing and I cant wait to tie a few up. One quick question on a seperate note... have you ever had issues with junction tubing not breaking away? I recently made a tip up steelhead fishing and had two solid takes on the swing. In both instances the tubing did not break away. I have never had this happen before I also lost both fish in each instance. Thanks Jens I will look forward to patterns you will be posting in the future. Hi Here is the dressing: Tube: Orange FITS tube system Tag: Dark purple oval tinsel Tail: Purple SLF hanks Rear body: Gold flatbraid Front body: Purple SLF Hackle: Purple cock Rib: Oval silver Wings: Pink and Purple Artic fox Head: Black cone To your second question I am not really sure what you mean Is it the silicone tube holding the hook or?? Jens Jens Thanks for the recipe I cant wait to tie some up! My second issue I was using KMNH 1.25 tubes with junction tubing. The junction tubing is slid over the 1.25 tube the hook is tied to the leader that has been passed through the tube and is then held in place by the junction tubing. In most instances with Trout steelhead and small mouth once the fish hits the hook breaks free of the junction tubing. In my last outing the hook did not separate from the junction tubing. Hope this clears up my question... either way thanks for sharing such awesome patterns!

  8. Does any one have any experence tieing Goerge Harvey patterns specifically his night fly pattern. I have only seen an illustration of this fly and wonder what it looks like and how to tie it.
  9. Jens can you explain to me if Temple dog is just the matterial or also a term for a style of tying tubes? Many thanks!
  10. Nice I have seen the fly you speak on this site before and it looked like a good pattern this picture only further emphasise what a good pattern it is. I might ties some up before this weekends trip. Swinging with the single hand rod?
  11. The legs on this pattern are reminicent of the zuddler pattern a bit. Nice ties I hope to sign up for this class if my schedual permits.
  12. What fly did it come to? Egg pattern or stone fly? Trib looks a little tiny to swing flys. Nice fish regardless of what destination it was taken from.
  13. My personal favorite surf fly would have to be the half and half. If you have chartruse grizzly hackle that works great for the tail. The Half and Half for the newbie’s is half clouser half deceiver the best of both worlds.
  14. I am very fond of compara style emergers for mayflys with 2XL bodies. On the shorter bodied mayflies I like the CDC emerger patterns on a TMC 2488.
  15. Thanks Dustin I will try and troll him up. Thanks for the helpfull suggestions from everyone else. For some reason I really love tying tube flys.
