  1. Thanks for the info everybody. Found a source for mandarin, very expensive, where can I acquire the domestic white duck, or the drake wood duck breast feathers, Thanks, Bob V. (PAPAVV)
  2. Hi, I normally like to tie streamers and classic wet flies. But sure love the appearance of the Royal Coachman Fan Wing. What feather is used for the wing? Particularly want to get that nice frilled edge. I tend to tie more for the show then the throw. I have found info indicating the use or white ringneck neck feather, mallard breast, mandarin duck breast. Which is most common?? Found some mandarin feathers on the net but very expensive. Thanks for your help Bob V. (PAPAVV)
  3. Hi, Doing some sorting of all my supplies. Have these three patches and not sure exactly what they are. The first grizzly looking one has very FUZZY feathers. (is it a marabou). Appreciate any help. Thanks BobV
  4. Hi, Thanks for the ideas guys. Finger nail idea worked great. Also have some feathers being pressed under bricks now. Simple ideas I should of thought of. Thought you might have to soak or steam or something similiar. Thanks again Bob v

  6. Hi Everybody, As you know the packer mania is still going here in Wisconsin, so I decided to create My "Packer Platter" for our local RELAY FOR LIFE benefit this weekend. BasicallyI have "cheeseheads" and title town 1s. I am an old geezer(almost 74) with a little arthritis in the hands and only about six months experience. I know, excuses, excuses, excuses don't count. I would truly appreciate any critique anyone might have. not too computer savvy, so I hope I will be able to get the pics attached. thanks for your critiques. PAPA VV P. S. Gained most of my knowledge from Don Bastian's DVD's and some tips etc. from Chris Helm. Thanks guys. P. P. S. Sorry for the pics all over the place, need to practice on this!!!!!!!!
  7. Hi, I am a newbie so not up to date on all the products out there. I am presently tying panfish flies from Chris Helm's panfish fly video. The nymph receipe calls for red micro-brite dubbing. Don't find it in most on line catalogs. If i goggle it, it only seems to be available in UK (england) shops. Is there a source in the U.S.? If not, what is a good substitute? Thanks for your help. PAPA VV
  8. HI, I AM A NEWBIE(REAL NEW), BUT I WOULD LIKE TO TRY AND BUILD THE GRAY CHOST AS SHOWN IN DAVID KLAUSMEYER'S BOOK ON STREAMERS. OK, DUMB QUESTION, WHAT IS THE ACTUAL COLOR OF THE FEATHER WINGS??. I KNOW IT SAYS GRAY, BUT IN LOOKING IN ON LINE CATALOGS ETC. I CAN'T FIND GRAY SADDLE HACKLE AS CALLED FOR IN THE LIST OF MATERIALS. AM I CORRECT IN GUESSING THAT DUN IS SORT OF A GRAY AND THAT IS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR??? ALSO, ARE THE SMALL PACKETS OF SILVER PHEASANT FEATHERS SOLD ON LINE FOR ABOUT $5.00 GOING TO GIVE ME THE CORRECT SIZE FEATHER FOR CHEEKS?? I HAVE SOME JUNGLE COCK AND THE OTHER MATERIALS. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR ANSWERS. PLAN TO TIE ON A # 2 HOOK. PAPA VV
  9. Hi, Have been noticing a lot of jungle cock skins on EBAY from someone in Estonia. I did a search here on the forum and noticed some guys have bought jungle cock on Ebay with some satisfaction. But has anybody bought from the Estonian seller and been satisfied with their purchase? Is it even legal to purchase from that site? I am a newbie and really looking for practice materials before I get into quality ties. Also looking for a good place to purchase a silver pheasant skin. Thanks for your help PAPA VV
  10. Thanks for the info guys, Your quote above kicks my idea in the but. Was hoping to bleach the canadian goose feathers and then dye various colors for married wings parts. At this point in time I am a long ways from that as I am a very brand new tiweer. Thanks again PAPA VV
  11. HI I am a newbie to the forum and to tying. I have a couple of questions about canadian goose wing feathers. I have a number of them provided by my hunting friends. Question One. Can they be bleached, and how do I go about it??? Question Two. Can they then be dyed, and how do I go about that????? Would appreciate any direct answers or sources of information, haven"t had too much luck searching the forum and googling Thanks in advance for your help. 13. Hi, Am unable to download the tutorials at the start of this forum. let me also clarify that I am not super computer savvy, I also use a Macintosh or apple computer. When i try to download I get a Message, cannot find the download, use force download with some other computer language. Don't know how to force download. Also have no pictures on a lot of posts, just a question mark where picture should be. Thanks in advance PAPA VV
  14. Hi, I am a newbie to tying, but have found a couple of bass flies I would like to tie, patterns call for a Mustad 3371 size 2 sproat hook with a blind eye. they seem to be pretty hard to obtain. Anybody know a source, or what would be a suitable substitute? Blind eye is not necessary, just a straight eye would work for me. Thanks for your help. rock river man
