Cole's Un-Usual Emerger SBS

This one's from Jackson Hole tyer Howard Cole. Tied here as a baetis, change colors to suit your needs. My apologies for the poor pics; brought my tying stuff on the road but have to make do with some sub-standard lighting.

 

hook - Dai Riki 320 #18

thread - Uni 8/0 olive dun

shuck - Z-lon brown

tail - mallard flank (dyed woodduck)

abdomen - biot olive brown

wing - Snowshoe hare's foot

thorax - dubbing olive brown

hackle - dun

 

 

Mash down barb, start thread, tie in shuck and wrap back to bend; trim (gap width)

tie in a few mallard flank fibers (shank length) over shuck

moisten biot and tie in (notch side down for ribbed effect, up for smooth; your choice); wrap forward, tie off and trim

cut a clump of SS hare's foot (shank length); tie in

dub thorax; take a turn in front of wing to help stand it up

tie in hackle

take a wrap behind the wing, then a few in front; tie off, trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

trimmed hackle underneath if you want it closer to the meniscus
