Yes the tooth pick or drill bit goes in the Dremel tool to shape them.

Zara Spook,
I thought I was one of the first guys to figure out how to do that with a fly. Silly me turns out The Cream and a few others figured it out a few years before me. Even though Ive been trying to do it for 20 years just none really worked out well for me until I figured out what you have to do to make them work right.

They have to have some weight in the ass end to walk right. I have one carved out of balsawod and some out of dear hair but never foam.

They are on Photobucket. I have to transfer them so I can post them Ill do it later.

Do a search here for Zara Spooks youll find some info on it. I think The Cream nailed the design and then farmed it out to another fly tyer, you can buy them online made out of deer hair.

I mount them on a toothpick or very small drillbit like 1/32
With a tiny tiny bit of CA glue to hold them on. Then shape them with a emery board and a Dremel tool.

Heres some I did awhile back. Pretty easy really, just buy some 1/4 & 3/8 cylindrical foam and shape them mounted on a tooth pick or small drill bit.

Thx guys
Yes they are pins.

I’m not married to any one product but inbetween paint colors(so I can wipe off mistakes without damage to the color beneath it)
I just use a water based poly. For the final topcoat I use Sally Hansen’s and my latest favorite is Liquid Fusion because it’s more durable and doesn’t dry as fast as HS or chip like HS.

I stole that design from here:

It’s one of my favorite top water styles.

I like Barrys honesty and the fact that the Mods/Admin here didnt edit it or delete it.
On a lot of websites a post like his wouldve been whacked.

When you start paying that kind of money for a vice that holds a hook you are paying for style, looks and tooling so it better be flawless.

Thx for the heads up
