Sad day

After 14 years I had to put down my American Eskimo today. She has been by my side from the time she was 6weeks old except when I was deployed to Iraq. I miss her. Hell with all the friends I lost overseas losing her hit me even more.

It'll be that way for a while. Especially when she was with you for such a long period of your life. You get a chance you should share a pic of her if ya can. Would enjoy seeing her, those are such pretty dogs.

I share your pain, I had to have my lab Chance put down last Monday, he was 13 years old. He was retrieving machine, and loved to train, and hunt. At one time I had 4 labs at one time, Chance was the last, it sure quiet around here. Just try to think of all the good times and crazy things you did together, it helps some.

Mike.

It's a hard time for you and for all who have gone and will go through it. Grieving over a dog is different in that they are wholly engaged with you as the center of their world but that also makes them a part of you in subtle, very telling, ways.

There is no quick fix for the loss. It takes time. There is a hole that needs filling.

We have seven collars over the fire place and putting each of them there has been as hard as the first.

But I have leaned to recover more thoroughly by "getting back on the bike" as soon as the time is right.

Someone sent me this when I had to put my Lab down a few years ago. It makes me tear up every time I read it,but it is so true

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew ...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say
"Goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

Wife is a dog person. (I prefer cats) This is one of the plaques on our wall.

“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”

She looks like a sweetheart of a dog. Of course, they all are (or can be).

Once again, my deepest sympathies.
