Hey folks. I haven't been here forever, I know. I just fixed this video--after more than 600 views. Whoops! Sorry.

    Bad fly shop

So it's been well over a month(11/7/08) now since I placed my first and last order with TCO flyshop. I only ordered a few things, a stacker, some dub, roll of thread, about $20 worth. It has taken them since Nov 7th, a dozen emails and 2 phone calls (1 from the owner, apologizing) More than month later I finally get a part of the order, my dub, then the thread, and finally a stacker I didn't even order. I emailed them back and was assured the new stacker was on it's way via UPS, that was days ago. I give up, they aren't going to pull through for me, it's already cost them twice the value of the order THEY screwed up. So if you are considering dealing with TCO, think about this thread. Brian
  3. In the mountains of Virginia- Bead head pheasant tail, all purpose fly that fairs well no matter where you put it. Seems to work on stocked and native fish equally as well. Some of these natives even take strike indicators.
  4. LOL good post. I just bought 2 more new ones to add to my collection of various sources, all were made in Taiwan India China or whatever Asian toilet got the bid. Doesn't matter, I got well over 10 years out of each one. The last 2 I bought were from Cabelas, I'm sure they'll go many years.
  5. Can't say it wasn't any ONE thing. My own hair, road kill, my step dad's chow.
  6. My man! It seems to be part of southern culture, or a right of passage somehow thats folks in the south HAVE to give swimming lessons to minners for the purpose of attracting crappie. I gladly put down fly rod this event. Sorry fellers, thems just the facts.
  7. The Wally worlds near me (Leesburg and Sterling Va stores)- I have bought guinea feathers, life time supply goose biots for about a dollar, doll eyes, beads etc... I think I even got some partridge too, been a long time ago though.
  8. Anyone recollect the 17 year runs? I've seen it twice now, last one was summer 04'. Heck even the hawks were cashing in on these dumb bugs! It sure did create a wealth of food for one summer resulting in bumper crops of other critters. We don't generally blow away foreigners with our local wildlife and anomalies, but the 17 year locust sent em all into shock! They make great BB gun targets too.

    Lazy Mantis

This little guy has spent the day on my deck and in my family room with the kids. I guess they tired him out. As the sun goes down hes making his way back to where I found him. But the whole thing explains the nest on the front on my house. Please pardon the tone in my voice, been fighting an infection.
  10. Herl is humidity sensitive, if it's breaking its dry and should either be replaced or remoistened with a few drops of water in the bag. My method is to use 2-4 strands at once depending on size requirements. Suppose you live in Arizona, you would have numerous problems with herl. I live in Virginia, I rarely, but sometime add a drop or 2 of water to my materials and reseal the bag.
  11. I know what your saying, but I have a calf tail and I gotta make it work. I'd sure love to see pallet of died body hair one day.
  12. Ya know what? I read about washing tails and re grooming them. I don't recollect ever doing that, but I decided I'd give it a whirl. Of course now my tying table smells like a cows rear end with that wet tail sitting on a bag drying out. My dogs seem to like it as they started investigating the new smell. Thanks for the input Big E
  13. I realized this week I am more rusty then I care to discuss, I broke out my stacker and and a pinch of yellow calf tail for a Mr Rapidan. Done what I thought I used to do years ago. No results, still had the same pile I put in the stacker. How many times did I have to beat it down, rearrange the fibers, pluck the guard hairs etc.? Any of you hair wing types care to refresh my memory?
  14. Hi all, my name is Brian. I'm 42, 2 kids, wife/house the usual. Been fly fishing for about 15 years, tying most of that time as well. After buying a new house tying was put down for about 8 years, and rare occasion I found myself whipping out a few of this a few of that. Being that I live in the Appalachians (Shenandoah region) and surrounded by trout it was time to get back to it. But this week I found my self unable to remember how I ever stacked calf tail hair, I knew I was in trouble. So I'm back after some years, and feel rusty and old, please bear with me as my experience is sometimes mixed with amnesia. Anyway, nice meetn' ya'll I hope I make friends here. By the way I speak southernese. Brian
