  1. I've had mine for a few years now and purchased the extension and an extra set of jaws. I tie everything from midges to bass flies and it does all I can ever imagine I would want to do. Very comfortable and easy to adjust. I ground the "needle" nose off the original set of jaws making them more blunt so I could better tie mono weedguards on the bass flies while gripping more of a 3/0 hook. It takes maybe 30 seconds to unscrew and replace the jaws if I decide to tie tiny flies that require more of a dainty grip. We use MUCH more expensive vises at conclaves and for my money, I can buy lots of hooks and materials with what I saved buying a "cheap" Danvise.
  2. My wife bought me a C&F fly box that I hinted at (OK, I emailed her a link to a fly shop!). I bought my 7 & 11 year old kids their own complete fly tying setup. Wooden storage box/tying bench, Ebayed Thompson Model A vises, starter kits of hair, hackle, etc., tools, etc... It's going to get really expensive now to maintain 4 tying benches (I tie at work and at home). Hopefully I can infect them with this madness.
  3. Switched gears from bluegill flies (traditional dries, nymphs, etc..) to BIG bass patterns (Barr's Meat Whistle, Zoo Cougar type flies).
  4. I was reading the post from "Arkansas Mike" about his tying out of a bag and progressing to his own dedicated place. I found it ironic that I have ended up where he started. I started tying when I was about 15 and I've always dabbled in it, but a few years ago I REALLY got back into it. At 40, I now have my own "Man Cave", complete with my grandfather's antique oak desk dedicated to tying, storage containers up to the ceiling, every tool you can think of, more materials than I really need, etc... However, my job just went from 7 days on & 7 days off (offshore) to 14 & 14 so I thought I would put together a kit to take offshore to help the time go by. I now have a travel setup that will tie most everything I want and hardly ever tie at home. When I'm home, it's time to use the roughly 10-12 dozen flies I tied the 2 weeks I was at work! I still slip out to my hidey-hole every night but only tie for fun and new ideas for next time at work. This stuff is addicting!
  5. My daughter is actually a little better than my son. She LOVES little crease flies after watching a teenage girl tie them at the Gulf Coast Expo but is pretty good with Wooly Worms and simple ties like that. She likes to color the Crease flies with markers and really takes her time making her thread lay just so. My son just wants to pump them out as fast as possible but we're working on quality over quantity.
  6. Hello everybody. I've been lurking around for a month or so but I've been fly fishing and tying for close to 30 years. Just getting back into both seriously in the last year or so. I have a 10-year old son and a 6-year old daughter and they both love to tie. We just got back from the FFF Gulf Coast Expo and after tying with Bill Heugel, I think they're hooked! I mostly fish for bluegills and bass in my pond, although we have excellent redfishing very close (we live in Abbeville, LA). I've enjoyed the patterns and tying tips so far but have just scratched the surface of this fine website.
